The North Won

Talk about the struggle
Talk about the fight
Talk about the trouble
Talk about wrong & right
Talk about innocence
Talk about regret
Talk about self defense
It seems like we sometimes forget
The North won
The North won
The North won

Say you know for certain
Say you don’t understand
Say you wear your burdens
Say you hide behind your skin
Say cities are burning
Say you are to blame
Say children are yearning
Say our brothers bring us shame
Say time heals wounds
Say peace, love & respect
Say damn John Wilkes Booth
It seems like we sometimes forget
The North won
The North won
The North won

Singing from New York to Ferguson
Singing from Montgomery to Washington
The North won
The North won
The North won

We the people, would you look at what we’ve done
We’re all created equal, but look at we’ve become
Abraham Lincoln got assassinated in the Ford Theater
5 days after the Civil War ended, but Abraham said to Mary
The North won
The North won
The North won
Abraham said to Mary
The North won

The Madness

Do we love each other or do we hate ourselves
Do we love each other or do we hate ourselves
We give and give and give ourselves away
Until there’s nothing but emptiness

Mountains of hatred
Oceans of sadness
Nothing is sacred
Surrounded by the madness

The more things change, the more things stay the same
The more things change, the more things stay the same
Time ticks and ticks and ticks passing us by
Until there’s nothing but time to blame

Mountains of hatred
Oceans of sadness
Nothing is sacred
Surrounded by the madness

Vague memories of yesterday
A vision for tomorrow
What we once had was so much better
From our future we shall borrow
Stealing our tomorrows

The sun will shine it'll shine it'll shine if we let it
We might even find our happiness
What you see is what you believe is what you get
Surrounded by the madness
The sun will shine it'll shine it'll shine if we let it
We might even find our happiness
What you see is what you believe is what you get
Surrounded by the madness

Son Walker

In a mirror stared a preacher's son
On a broken legged throne is where he sat
He never knew where he was from
But he knew where he was at

He said I'm Son Walker and I walk alone
I want no one by my side
Not that I do, but I do and I don't
To heaven or hell I will ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride

Son Walker's father preached in protest
Because he lost touch with his savior
But all of those he had blessed
Were questioning their behavior
The congregation's souls were naked
Burning bibles are hard to read
Son just laughed in their faces of hatred
Saying how easy you forget your creed

He said I'm Son Walker and I walk alone
Everyone's got their demons inside
Not that I do, but I do and I don't
To heaven or hell I will ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride

Echoing through that overcast land
Shots rang out like rolling thunder
When Son was asked if he was a religious man
The gun to his head made him wonder
He smiled and said when I need to be
What does it mean to be blessed
As he saw his father laying lifelessly
With a bible fallen from his vest

He said I'm Son Walker and I walk alone
I only know when to run and hide
Not that I do, but I do and I don't
To heaven or hell I will ride
Ride, ride, ride,
Ride, ride, ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride

The clouds cleared from those forsaken skies
As Son stood a cross upon his father's grave
Tears came and went in his eyes
Wondering if his soul would be saved
Son knelt down and asked his lord
As the clouds they  rolled in again
Rains of judgment began to pour
Son walked alone unto the end

He said I'm Son Walker and I walk alone
Everyone's got a little good inside
Not that I do, but I do and I don't
To heaven or hell I will ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride
Ride, ride, ride, ride, ride

Sad Eyes

Let’s set the scene, a beauty queen
She’s got everybody talking
Legs long and lean, begging to be seen
Just look at how she’s walking
And she looked at me oh my, to my surprise
Her long blonde hair, skin so fair, nothing could hide that icy stare
As she took off her shades, an empty gaze,
I could only wonder why, why, why
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes

Did he hurt her, did he hit her
Or did he just not listen
Did he love her, did he leave her Is there someone she’s missing
Did she wonder if there’s another Someone else he’s been kissing
She looked at me oh my, to my surprise
Her long blonde hair, skin so fair, nothing could hide that icy stare
As she took off her shades, an empty gaze,
I could only wonder why, why, why
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes

Maybe I should hold her
Let her cry on my shoulder
And I could give a little hope
And a whole lot of mercy
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes
Why does she have sad eyes
Why does she have sad, sad eyes

World War We

We loved each other because we said we did
Always good at keeping our feelings hid
Until there was no more comfort in our discontent
Nothing left to conquer or defend
Nothing left but ruins of once upon a time
No turning back, nothing left but goodbye
Just a blank stare as the bombs fall down
Too late for the sirens to sound
Too late for the sirens to sound
Too late for the sirens to sound
No more anger or laughter
No fairy tale happily ever after
Nothing but numb to the core
Little by little
Caught in the middle
Of our world war
When the world is no longer what it was before
When I love you doesn’t mean I love you anymore
When there’s nothing left worth fighting for
It’s our World War
Just you and me
And World War We
Too late for the sirens to sound
Too late for the sirens to sound
Too late for the sirens to sound
Too late now

Let’s drop to our knees and pray we will survive
Blind, deaf and numb we were, you and I
Let us not be satisfied with our discontent
We have everything to conquer and defend
Let’s lay down our guns Baby let’s lay down
Let’s lay down our guns Baby let’s lay down
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late for the sirens to sound
It’s not too late
It’s not too late
It’s not too late

My Street

I was talking to my buddy Ray one time at work
He said his sweet sister got beat up by some jerk
Six hours in a holding cell then they let him go
Slapped him on the wrists and said leave the girl alone
Leave her alone
A couple months went by, he didn't hear a thing
But one night 'round 3 o'clock the telephone rang
They said, Ray sorry, but can you come downtown
Identify a body, we think it's your sister we've found
That we've found
It was something about love, something about hate
Something about an addiction that she couldn't seem to break
He said I thought she won the game, but I didn't know the score
I just can't believe this world anymore, anymore...
And I thought to myself,
Thank God it never happened on my street

The other night on the news there was a story about a boy
Silver spoon in his mouth, his parent's pride and joy
They went to church every Sunday, and he sang in the choir
But when he said what the preacher did, their hearts caught fire
Caught on fire
A life full of promise, all their hopes and dreams
Quickly came unraveled, falling apart at the seams
His father couldn't take it, he went to defend his pride
In God's name he gave his offering with a .38 at his side
At his side
He went to the station after and turned himself in
He released a statement saying It's not me who has sinned,
Everyone's got a breaking point" as his tears poured
He said, I just can't believe this world anymore, anymore...
And I thought to myself,
Thank God it never happened on my street

I was talking to my neighbor Joe, just the other day
I didn't think much of it when he said, "I've lost my way"
He turned around and went back home keeping his feelings hid
Bottled up his emotions, but last night he lost his lid
Lost his lid
I could hear voices rising, and tempers start to flair
And then the thundering Hell as gunshots filled the air
I could see the whole world changing through the peephole in my door
I just can't believe this world anymore, anymore...
And I thought to myself,
My God now it’s happened on my street

Kisses & Hearts

Hi, how are you
Are you doing ok?
I haven’t seen you online In several days
Always like your updates A
nd your pictures too
I can so relate
To a girl like you
I tried to poke you
But you haven’t poked me back
Sent you kisses and hearts
Hope there’s nothing wrong with that
I was watching Catfish
The other day on MTV
Saw a girl that looked like you
Made me wonder about you and me

Call me crazy
Call me anything you’d like
But I’m here for you baby
Just tell me we’re alright
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts

Oh your funny faces
And your funny little lines
We can go places
Someday you will be mine
Remember when we met
We both liked the same joke
You replied to my comment
And I sent you a note
I saw a picture of you
You were hugging another girl
I thought I was special to you
That I was your world
I was watching Catfish
The other day on MTV
Saw a boy that looked like you
Made me wonder about you and me

Call me crazy
Call me anything you’d like
But I’m here for you baby
Just tell me we’re alright
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts

Crazy is as crazy does
Love isn’t what it once was
Holding hands and making love
Has turned into emoticons

Call me crazy
Call me anything you’d like
But I’m here for you baby
Just tell me we’re alright
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts
Kisses and hearts

Blackeyed Susans

She says love
Love, love, love, makes her high
She says love Love makes her so high she could cry
She says she cries
Cries, cries, cries
When she hears goodbye

But she likes Blackeyed Susans
She likes riding horses
She says I’m winnin’ even when I’m losin’
Life’s all about makin’ choices

She says love
Love, love, it’s like a dream
Sometimes it’s so pretty, pretty, pretty baby
Sometimes a nightmare make you scream
Says she didn’t know
How far she could go
How low

She likes Blackeyed Susans
She likes riding horses
She says I’m winnin’ even when I’m losin’
Life’s all about makin’ choices

She says love
It’s like a shinin’ star in the sky
You just never know
Just never know how bright it’ll shine
She says no
She says no
Every time she gets close
‘Cause you just don’t know
How dark things can get

She likes Blackeyed Susans
She likes riding horses
She says I’m winnin’ even when I’m losin’
Life’s all about makin’ choices

The Night is Ours

We were barely nineteen in the parking lot
Finally a night off from the Pizza King
You’re there with your girlfriends laughing about
The first moment I saw you, I saw the girl of my dreams
I winked at you and you caught it like a ball
I knew right then and there you could have my all

Baby I don’t know if I ever told you
But I don’t need much sleep
I want to do more than hold you
The night is ours to keep

4th of July and the fields were knee high
The harvest promises to be a good one
7 years later and our oldest on my thigh
Looking forward to a barbecue and some cold ones
You smile at me just like we’re back in that parking lot
I’m telling you baby I’ll give you everything I’ve got

I don’t know if I ever told you
That I don’t need much sleep
I want to do more than hold you
The night is ours to keep

Sirens sound echo in my head
They rushed in and they took you away
The doctor said that we don’t have much time left
Baby I don’t know what to say
You smile and tell me to imagine us back in that parking lot
You take my hand and pull me close and say “I’m giving it all I’ve got”

Baby I don’t know if I ever told you
But I don’t need much sleep
All I want to do is hold you
The night is ours to keep
Baby I don’t know if I ever told you
But I don’t need much sleep
All I want to do is hold you
The night is ours to keep
I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon
I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon
I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon
I’ll be home soon, I’ll be home soon, the night is ours to keep

Tired

There’s an old dog barking down the street
Barkin’ up a storm all night long
Wish he’d shut up so I could get some sleep
Brother beware if he keeps carrying on
I’m tired, so tired
I’m so damn tired

The wind is picking up, branches scratch the window
Thunder in the distance echo flashes of light
Three and a half more hours until Little Ben’ll jingle
The hammer in my head will not subside
I’m tired, so tired
I’m so damn tired

I can hear every single beat of my heart
Did it just skip am I going to make it through
Silent thoughts screaming in the dark
I close my eyes but can still see you
I’m tired, so tired
I’m so damn tired

I close my eyes, but can still see you
Close my eyes, but can still see you
Close my eyes, but can still see you
I’m tired, so tired I’m so damn tired

I Don’t Love You

I love coffee and a little bit of cream
I love chocolate and some things obscene
I love a hard rain and thunder in the sky
I love philosophy and all those questions why
I love the mountains and I love the sea
I love to eat the apple straight from the tree
I love so many things
Yes it’s true
But baby oh baby I
I don’t love you

I love the winter’s cold and a hot log fire
I love New York City and the Man on Wire
I love feeling pleasure and a little bit of pain
I love wearing t-shirts and faded blue jeans
I love the divine and I love the sin
I love a good whisky as it burns it’s way in
I love so many things
Yes it’s true
But baby oh baby I
I don’t love you

I love so many things
Yes it’s true
But love isn’t what I feel for you
What does mean if you love everything
Love is all around, love is all around
Written on billboard signs
So much love in this heart of mine
Oh just like waters deep and heavens blue
I’m still searching for the words beyond I love you

I love so many things
Yes it’s true
But baby oh baby I
I don’t love you

Take Me Back to Ohio

Memories stand still as we move on
Before you know it a new day dawns
Captain Kidd Drive-Inn and a case of Little Kings
We were making out in the parking lot
Lunch at Cork & Bottle and smoking pot
We were just kids, sure we knew better
But we had our lives in front of us
I love you forever & goodbye letters

Take me back to Ohio
Take me back before this life is through
I know damn well the winters are hell
But the summer skies are blue

The future came so fast and now it’s behind
Wondering what happened to all of our time
Friday night football games
Saturday night pizza up on Far Hills
Sunday morning donuts at Bill’s

Take me back to Ohio
Take me back before this life is through
I know damn well the winters are hell
But the summer skies are blue

Nothing quite like grandma’s lemonade
Or the marching band in the 4th of July Parade
Ninety five degrees standing in the shade
Never thought things would turn out this way
We were just kids, sure we knew better
But we had our lives in front of us I love you forever & goodbye letters

Take me back to Ohio
Take me back before this life is through
I know damn well the winters are hell
But the summer skies are blue

When in Doubt

I love you mountains and they’re real steep
Never going to lay me down, that love will last forever
Let’s enjoy this now and not get too deep
When in doubt let’s just talk about the weather

Did you hear the news, there’s a storm front coming through tonight
Listen to the thunder, hot and cold putting up a fight

Keep it on the surface
Smile and say yes sir
Keep it between the ditches
Don’t complain
He said God as my witness
Life passes in a blur
A moment such as this
Let it not be in vain

I love you mountains and they’re real steep
Never going to lay me down, that love will last forever
Let’s enjoy this now and not get too deep
When in doubt let’s just talk about the weather

How are you feeling,
I really want to know
Partly cloudy, not too hot I suppose
Meet me in the morning
After the vampires draw my blood
There’s a storm coming through
And there’s a coming of a flood
Without any warning
He said I hope to rise above
But patience is a virtue
And my virtue is in the mud

Always been at war, this isn’t any different
Hard rain pouring down, bullets almost spent
The days are numbered, but we’ll just count real slow
He said son just tell me now, what’s the forecast for tomorrow

I love you mountains and they’re real steep
Never going to lay me down, that love will last forever
Let’s enjoy this now and not get too deep
When in doubt let’s just talk about the weather

He says I know, I know that day will come
But the sun, oh the sun will shine today
Son, when in doubt it’s clear skies all damn day
